Designated Historical Site in 1979
After the death of his fiancée, Johan Beetz, lover of wilderness grandeur and hunting
and fishing enthusiast, was supposed to settle in Congo. But destiny sent him to Baie-Piashti,
a small village of the Minganie, which will eventually take the name of the Belgian aristocrat.
Built in 1899 on a rocky promontory, this large residence – 75 X 40 feet –
is terminated by a mansard roof with four sheet faces. Johan Beetz was especially thorough
in placing the numerous doors and windows to let the changing light enter his home all day
long, in the twelve bright and spacious rooms.

This residence is called “Le Château” by the villagers,
and is the gem of the region's domestic architecture.
Johan Beetz was a talented painter and artist, and he composed various still
lifes illustrating animals and flowers that adorn several doors in the mansion.
